We love Dahl and tried to find Raw Indian Dalh recipe but couldn't find one without coconut. We modified our favorite Dahl recipe from http://dairyfreecooking.about.com/od/soupschilistews/r/lentildahl.htm
Instead of serving it with flat bread, we served it with raw onion bread from http://heal-thy-self-cb.blogspot.com/2013/12/raw-onion-bread.html
Ingredients:
- 1 T. sesame oil or, alternatively, olive oil
- 1 cup finely chopped white onion
- 1 cup finely chopped celery
- 2 cloves garlic, finely chopped
- 1 T. finely chopped fresh ginger
- 2 T. sun-dried tomatoes finely chopped, soaked overnight in enough water for them to double (save the soaking water)
- 1 cup dried red lentils, rinsed and picked over and soaked over night adding enough water for the lentils to at least double, drained and rinsed and drained until the water runs clear
- 1 t. cumin
- 1 t. coriander
- 1 t. tumeric
- ¼ t. cardamom
- ¼ t. cinnamon
- 1 TBS apple cider vinegar
- salt and pepper to taste
- 1 TBS. honey
Directions: rinse soaked lentils and add them to a large bowl. add the remaining ingredients including the tomato soaking water. Mix well. It can be eaten immediately, left on the counter to meld the flavors or placed in the dehydrator at 110 for 6-8 hours to serve warm.
Cindy, that sounds amazing. We love Dahl and never would have thought to try a raw version. Why don't you use coconut?
